Reno Harley-Davidson® and many other sponsors helped in the Klothes 4 Kids Motorcycle Poker Run June 28, 2008. Community members and motorcycle riding participants come down to help raise money for children, in High School, from low-income families in the Washoe County School District.

Tickets for this event are $25 per rider for an all day event to include poker run, food, drinks, live music, ride pin and T-shirt.

John & Marci Crowell, of Reno Harley-Davidson/Buell, request your support for “Klothes 4 Kids”. This charity helps underprivileged high school teens in the Washoe County School District acquire NEW clothing year round. Our goal is to raise $50,000 this year with donations from the local businesses, local residents and the motorcycle community.

“The money is spent purchasing gift cards from ROSS Inc. and with the help of our friend Paul Dugan, the Superintendent of Washoe County Schools, they are distributed so that hundreds of local teens can purchase the clothing they need to have a better self image when they go to school.” says Reno Harley-Davidson/Buell co-owner Marci Crowell. “Clothing is such a big part of your personality and self esteem, especially at that age. We just feel it is extremely important for these kids to concentrate and learn in school and they need to feel good about themselves and feel good about the way they look.” She went on to say that it takes a large burden off of local families who struggle to make ends meet with the high cost of housing and gas.
We raised $20,000 last year, and we’d like to help more teens this year with your help. We are planning two events the 1st is our “Black & Blue Ball”. A wonderful evening in Leather and Denim is planned for Thursday, April 23rd with fine wines, beer from Great Basin Brewing Company, heavy hors d’oeuvres, live music and a silent auction of must-have items will be available for bidding. The 2nd event is our Annual Poker Run that will take place on Saturday, June 27th. Ride starts here at the Dealership before taking off on your motorcycle and ending up back at the Dealership for a party.

Here are some comments about the K2K program:

Steve Mulvenon (Director of Communications & Community Outreach): “The initial Klothes 4 Kids project has been a resounding success and we look forward to a long partnership. Literally hundreds of students have benefited and we owe the community a huge heartfelt ‘thank you’.”

Paul Dugan (Washoe County School District Superintendent): “Without the generosity and support of Klothes 4 Kids, these students would be unable to experience the joy and pride of having brand new clothes for school. On behalf of Washoe County School District, I tank all of you for your ongoing support of this very successful and needed program.”

…”now I don’t have to wear my dad’s shoes anymore.” – Student

…one student was trying to get out of a gang but all she had to wear were gang colors, received a gift card for new clothes.

“…I want to say thank you for the gift cards to Ross. I really appreciate it. I just got a job and that money helped me buy some work pants. I also got some school clothes. You guys helped me out a lot. I couldn’t have done it without you.”

“…Thank you so much for your gift. It meant so much to me. It felt so good to know someone cares.”

“…Thank you so much for my new clothes. I bought new shirts and pants. I feel so good in them. I feel better about myself too.”

“…I would like to express my deepest appreciation to you and all of the people involved in this wonderful gift. It is truly good to know that there is someone there and that I am not alone.”

“…I really appreciate the fact that you were kind enough to give me a gift. I really do appreciate you taking the time to think of others and their needs. Thank you to everyone that was involved.”

John & Marci thank you for your generous contribution and look forward to seeing you!
